The Neverfull Huxley Conundrum
It’s not often that I have trouble providing gift suggestions for things that I’d like to own, which makes my present situation very unusual. Let me give you the background…
When we visited America last year (California & Vegas) I had my heart set on buying a Louis Vuitton bag. It happened to be my birthday whilst we were there, I’d already been given some money to spend and I was hoping for a big win in Vegas to top up my LV fund. I didn’t get the big win, but my husband did, so that was reason enough for me to head back to the Louis Vuitton store and enquire about the Neverfull MM, which is what I was after. To my horror the price had increased by $100 in the 4 days we’d been in Vegas and so I decided it was not meant to be.
Several months on, in the build up to Christmas, my husband asked me what I’d like as a gift. Still tempted by the thought of owning a Neverfull, I asked him to keep a lookout for an LV shop in Heathrow T5 when he next headed out with work. The trip followed shortly, but alas, there was no LV shop. There was, however, a fairly substantial Harrods, which, amongst other brands, had a dedicated Anya Hindmarch section. Having put up with fashion chit-chat from myself and my peers over the past 7 years, my husband is now fully versed (whether he wants to be or not!) in designer fashion brands. Knowing my desire to one day own an Anya Hindmarch bag, he took some photos of the bags that were available to show me on his return.
Looking through the photos, there was one bag that stood out (most likely because I’d already spotted it online), the Huxley Clutch. Not necessarily the most practical choice, but definitely my favourite regardless!
As his second planned trip did not take place before Christmas, I’ve been given some extra time to think carefully about making such a big purchase and save the money I was gifted at Christmas. But as the decision deadline looms, I’m no closer to choosing, if anything, I’m further away.
It’s a question of Huxley vs Neverfull vs Living Frugally
I should also add that purchases of this magnitude are not frequent, never done on a whim, or even contemplated without plenty of money being saved first. I do not want to give the impression that I spend my weekends swanning about London spending £1000s on designer goods, I do not. I own a few treasured pieces, which were either given to me as gifts, or saved up for.
Do I choose the more practical Louis Vuitton Neverfull (which has since increased in price YET AGAIN!), or do I fulfil a dream to own an Anya Hindmarch bag with the luxe Hux. In short, I’ve yet to decide and would appreciate your thoughts…
