Alfie Douglas London
Earlier in the month I had the pleasure of spending the day in this quaint little town, otherwise known as London. Top of the agenda was a visit to see the launch collection of a new British designer handbag and accessories brand called Alfie Douglas.
After a somewhat convoluted journey that involved changing at nearly every tube station the train called at, I arrived at sunny Brick Lane and headed over to the pop-up shop that was being used to showcase the collection.
As a certified handbag hoarder I was never going to turn down an opportunity to check out a new brand, but what made this particular company really stand out is that fact that everything is designed and handmade in Britain. So much of my wardrobe is dedicated to housing overseas labels, that I’m always delighted to be able to support a home-grown brand and especially one that features such gorgeous handbags.
Alfie Douglas strive to design simple, minimalistic and original leather bags and accessories. Each item is made and finished by hand, with many being completely hand stitched. As a result all of their products are as individual as the makers and the people that use them.
I found the smell of the leather to be particularly intoxicating when I first entered the pop-up store housing the collection. Spread throughout were examples of both the finished products and the materials used to create the collections of handbags and accessories. On the upper floor there was a workbench where the talent behind the brand demonstrated some of the varied techniques they used when creating the designs.
My personal favourites from the collection were the Alfie Two mini backpack and the Alfie One large tote. I love the simple structure of the tote and the backpack caught my attention as it’s not a style of handbag that I've experimented with before - what other excuse do you need?
