ESPA Pink Hair and Scalp Mud
As someone who seems destined to destroy the hair nature gave them by constant straightening, curling and styling; it felt like fate was offering me a helping hand when I was asked to review ESPA’s Pink Hair and Scalp Mud intensive conditioner.
At the age of 14 I discovered straighteners and since then it’s been a daily battle to tame my mass of hair into something vaguely resembling a style. Although my hair only has a gentle wave, there’s so much of it that after blow drying I start to resemble various 80s pop stars with remarkable accuracy.
Now 27, I have put my hair through over 10 years worth of heated appliance torture, not to mention several misguided attempts at ‘expressing myself’ by dyeing my hair all the colours of the rainbow. So it seemed only right that I was the one chosen by fate to treat my hair and scalp to a night of deep conditioning and relaxation.
I arrived home on Thurs, cleared my husband out of the way, ran a hot bath, poured myself a glass of wine, lit some candles and played some ‘twinkly’ music to set the scene. Then as I slipped gently into the bath, being very careful not to knock my artfully placed candles over, I remembered I’d left the conditioner downstairs - typical!
So after a quick dash downstairs and more candle dodging I was ready to get started.
At first glance the Pink Hair and Scalp Mud doesn’t look a great deal like mud, a good thing in my opinion, but when massaging it into my hair I was reminded of the great fun I had as a child playing with lovely, squishy mud.
ESPA’s Pink Mud is actually made from a combination of red and white clay - which is what gives it it’s colourful name. It has a delightful ‘earthy’ smell that I really like, something that also helps to remind you that it’s made from 100% natural ingredients, as are all ESPA products, no nasty chemicals to be found here!
It slides on easily and you can use it on either dry or damp hair. They recommend leaving it on for no less than 20 minutes and the longer you leave it on the better. If you desire you can even leave it on overnight for an enhanced conditioning treatment.
Since I needed to be at work first thing Friday morning I decided to leave it on for an hour and relax in the bath while it performed it’s magic.
Wanting to do my research properly I had popped in to see a friend earlier in the week who’s a beauty therapist and works with ESPA products. She frequently recommends this to customers who have recently had their hair coloured as well as those who are going away on holiday. For people lucky enough to be sunning themselves somewhere exotic she recommends using the Pink Mud throughout the day whilst you’re sat on the beach to help protect your hair from the sea and the sun. She also suggests those on skiing holidays apply some in the evening to help protect their hair from the elements.
Enough rambling, back to the review - after about an hour, when I was suitable wrinkled, I rinsed my hair and then towel dried it. Even though it was wet I could feel it was softer than usual. After it was dried and styled it looked and felt amazing, not only had it improved the overall condition of my hair, but it had made it so smooth that for the first time in years I didn’t need to straighten it!
The versatility of this product is unbelievable, not only can it work wonders on your hair, but it’s also a very effective moisturiser. Use it on your dry elbows and knees to help soften the skin. Men don’t have to miss out either, applying the Pink Mud after they shave will help soothe the skin and prevent irritation.
I can highly recommend this to anyone who wants to give their hair a bit of a treat. A great idea for a Christmas present, especially if you combine it with some ESPA candles and Oils. The oils can actually be mixed with the Pink Mud to create a truly potent treatment.
It’s been several days now since I used the Pink Mud and I’ve washed my hair several times in between, but it still hasn’t lost its glow and it is still smooth to touch. A total winner in my very humble opinion!
